Take a Wine Course
The Chopping Block is proud to partner with Fine Vintage, to bring the prestigious Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) to Chicago.
The WSET is the "gold standard" in wine education, offering certification courses that are recognized around the world as formal qualifications in wine. The UK-based WSET runs courses in 55 countries and has appointed Fine Vintage to provide the courses in several cities, including Chicago.
If you are interested in expanding your wine knowledge while gaining the ability to converse, serve and shop for wine with confidence, you will receive a first class experience of expert instruction and exceptional wines.
James Cluer, one of only 312 Masters of Wine in the world and only 38 in North America, is the founder of Fine Vintage and has put together a team of the most knowledgeable wine experts in the United States.
Class fee includes all textbooks, wine tasting glasses, course materials, wine samples throughout the course and the WSET exam.
Bookings for Level 1 and Level 2 courses are now being accepted online. Visit Fine Vintage for the upcoming class schedule.
From wineries in California to France to Canada and even Mount Everest, James travels the world tasting the finest wines to bring them to his students. Find out how altitude affects the taste of wine at the top of the world in James' Mount Everest video.

What We're Drinking Now
Bieler Pere et Fils Rosé 2013, Provence, France
This delicious, dry rosé is Syrah-driven (55%) blended with 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Grenache. This rich, deeply colored wine is perfect for a warm summer evening on the patio with mild cheeses and a Niçoise salad. It is beautifully crisp and flavorful on the palate with medium body and notes of red berries, bing cherries, spinch and no oak. The finish is long and refreshing. It's a true warm weather gem!
